Golf Turns in Third-Lowest 54-Hole Score in Program History

YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State at The Players Club, taking third place on Wednesday.

The Broncos combined to shoot a 302 on the day to finish with a 54-hole total of 891 (+14), a new program-best under third-year head coach Kim Moore and the third-lowest in program history. The second round of 290 was the lowest single round since the 2004 Bobcat Desert Classic. Loyola Chicago claimed the top spot with an 879 (+15), followed by runner-up Oakland at 887 (+23). WMU finished ahead of all of its competitors from the Mid-American Conference in Akron, BSU, Eastern Michigan and Ohio.

For the first time in her young career, sophomore Ally Barth was WMU's top finisher. Barth shot a final round of 72 for a 220 (+4) to tie for seventh place. Barth made her gains on par fives, finishing -2 on them during the tournament. She had a team-high 10 birdies and also finished with 33 pars.

Natalie Samdal was WMU's second finisher with a score of 224 (+8) and was followed by Haley Barclay with a 225 (+9). Barclay shot three rounds of 75 over the two days. Freshman Megha Vallabhenani was right behind her with a 226 (+10), while Kailey White rounded out the top five with a 230 (+14).

It's a quick turnaround for the Broncos, who are back in action beginning on Sunday at the Briar Ridge Invitational hosted by Illinois-Chicago.
