Attard Named Most Valuable Defenseman, Shares MVP Award with Ethen Frank

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team wraps up its team awards for the 2021-22 season with Ronnie Attard being named the Neil Smith Most Valuable Defenseman and sharing the Rob Hodge Most Valuable Player Award with Ethen Frank.

Attard finished third on the team in scoring with 36 points on 13 goals and 23 assists, while leading the team in plus/minus at +20. He also finished second on the team in blocked shots with 50. Attard repeated as the NCHC's Best Offensive Defenseman, was named First Team All-NCHC and an American Hockey Coaches Association West Division First Team All-American. After the season he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers and made his NHL debut.

Frank became the first player in program history to lead the nation in goal scoring after tallying 26 on the season. He finished with a career-best 39 points and was +15. Frank did some serious damage on the power play, with 10 of his 26 tallies coming on the man advantage. He was named First Team All-NCHC and an AHCA West Division Second Team All-American.

Both were key in helping the Broncos to a third-place finish in the NCHC standings, a trip to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship, a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and the program's first NCAA Tournament win.
