Stephens Inks Canadian Prep Star Jefferson Monegro

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball program and head coach Dwayne Stephens have announced the signing of guard Jefferson Monegro from LaSalle, Quebec. Monegro joins Max Burton (Williamston, Mich.) and JaVaughn Hannah (Mount Clemens, Mich.) in WMU's 2022 recruiting class. All three are set to join the Broncos for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

"We are very excited to add Jefferson to our roster," Stephens said. "He is a competitor that brings it every day. He comes from Orangeville Prep, a program with a winning tradition. Jefferson has a high basketball IQ and can affect the game in many ways. We can't wait for him to get to Kalamazoo!"

Monegro comes to Western Michigan after spending his last two years at Orangeville Prep in Mono, Ontario, a prep school which has produced many NBA players, including Jamal Murray and Lu Dort.

At Orangeville, Monegro averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 assists per game. He also had a career-high 33-point game for coach Tony McIntyre and the Bears.

This past year, Monegro was a BioSteel All-Canadian selection and Second Team All-Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA). Additionally, he was a recipient of the OSBA Sportsmanship Award, an award that is selected by coaches within the league for displaying fairness, ethics and respect.
