KENT, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's basketball team wrapped up its 2025-26 season on Friday evening with an 86-78 loss at Kent State.
The Broncos finish the season 10-21 overall and 4-14 in conference play, while Kent State concludes the regular season at 23-8 and 14-4 in league play.
Western Michigan had five players score in double-figures, led by
Jayden Brewer's 20 points. Also in double-figures for the Brown and Gold were
Trey Lewis (17),
Jalen Griffith (14),
Justice Williams (11) and
Carson Vis (10). Williams paced WMU on the glass with a career-high tying eight rebounds, while
Jalen Griffith handed out a team-leading six assists.
Kent State started fast, netting the first seven points of the evening on the way to a 13-3 start. At 31-22, the Broncos used a 10-2 run, capped by back-to-back Griffith triples, to close the gap to 33-32. The Golden Flashes answered with 10 in a row to build the margin to 11, 43-32, and took a 46-37 lead into halftime.
Trailing by 11 again, 65-54, near the midway point of the second half, Western Michigan rattled off seven in a row to close the gap to 65-61. With the margin at 71-63, the Broncos used a five-point burst to climb to within three, 71-68, with just over six minutes to play. After a
Sharod Barnes layup made it 73-70, the Golden Flashes nailed back-to-back three-pointers to get the lead back to nine, 79-70, and held off WMU from there.
Western Michigan shot 40.0 percent (24-for-60) from the field and hit a season-high 13 three-pointers. Kent State made 46.8 percent (29-for-62) of its field goal attempts.
