Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Western Michigan Basketball programs are focused on making a community impact far beyond game day after concluding the first season of "Books and Basketball". Books and Basketball is a community driven initiative connecting Western Michigan student athletes with local elementary schools in the Kalamazoo area.
Designed to inspire future Broncos, the programs bring members of each basketball program into the classroom, where students can directly speak with the Men's and Women's basketball teams, share lessons on leadership and teamwork, while building lasting connections with young fans. The goal of Books and Basketball is simple – use the platform of Western Michigan basketball to inspire young Broncos to dream big, academically and athletically.
To further the connection with the students, basketball student athletes will hand out a ticket voucher to one of the upcoming home games at University Arena. So far, this initiative has introduced young fans to Western Michigan University, further drove attendance to athletic events on campus, and has created unforgettable game day experiences for local families.
