AUBURN, Ala. – Western Michigan gymnastics was eliminated from NCAA postseason play this afternoon, falling in the Regional Qualifying Meet to the Iowa State Cyclones by a final tally of 195.750-193.575. The Broncos finish the season with an overall record of 7-10, and a 3-3 record against Mid-American Conference opponents.
The Broncos started the day on the uneven bars, and were anchored by performances from sophomore
Sarah Moravansky, who posted a team-high score of 9.850, as well as fellow sophomore
Dani Petrousek, who was close behind with a 9.750.
Following the bars, the Broncos then shifted gears to compete on vault where they posted a team score of 48.975. Leading the way in the second rotation of the day for the Broncos was Moravansky, who posted another 9.850 for her team's cause.
Dani Petrousek, as well as junior
Josephine Thomas, each added 9.80 scores for Western Michigan as well.
For the third rotation, the Broncos headed to the floor exercise and finished the event with a team score of 48.500. Headlining the floor routines for Western Michigan were freshman
Cassie St. Clair and
Dani Petrousek. St. Clair registered a team-high 9.850 from the judges, while Petrousek added a 9.825 to the WMU efforts.
In the fourth and final rotation of the day, the Broncos were primed for the beam and tallied a team score of 48.650. Highlighting the WMU beam trials were
Halle Faulkner, who finished with a 9.775, as well as
Josephine Thomas and
Sarah Moravansky who each reported a 9.750 to round out the day. Moravanksy also served as the lone all-arounder for the Broncos, tallying a total score of 39.2.
Tomorrow morning's NCAA Regional quad meet will feature a pair of individual performances from junior
Amanda Gruber on beam, and
Sarah Moravansky on vault. Moravansky will compete on vault alongside the Kentucky Wildcats, while Gruber will take the beam in the mix with the Auburn Tigers. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. CT start and will be available for streaming via
