Men's Basketball Closes Out Road Slate on Tuesday at EMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team concludes its 2021-22 road schedule on Tuesday night as it travels to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan. The game is set to be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Bronco Media Network

END OF THE ROAD
Western Michigan plays its final road game of the 2021-22 season on Tuesday evening as it travels to Ypsilanti to face EMU. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos are coming off of a 78-67 win at Bowling Green on Saturday, their first MAC road victory of the season. Western Michigan had four players in double-figures for the fifth time this season, as Lamar Norman Jr. led the way with 16, Markeese Hastings scored 14, B. Artis White had 12 and Mack Smith chipped in 11 points. 

PROTECTING THE ROCK
Western Michigan had single-digit turnovers for the second consecutive game and fifth time this season on Saturday, as it turned the ball over nine times against BGSU. 

WMU VS EMU
Tuesday marks the 121st all-time meeting between Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan. The Broncos hold a 62-58 advantage in the series, but the Eagles have won six of the last seven, including an 85-79 win at University Arena on Jan. 4. WMU is 14-32 against Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti. 

EARLIER THIS SEASON
Back on Jan. 4, Eastern Michigan got out to a 17-point halftime lead and survived a late WMU rally to win, 85-79. Lamar Norman Jr. had a career night for Western Michigan, posting career-bests in points (34) and made field goals (14). Noah Farrakhan had 25 points to lead the four Eagles in double-figures. EMU shot 53.4 percent for the game and 58.1 percent in the first half. 

EYEING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan is coming off of a 75-64 loss at Ball State on Saturday. The Eagles are on the outside looking in for the upcoming MAC Tournament with their five wins, but are just one behind Central Michigan and Miami, who currently occupy the last two tournament spots. EMU is led by Noah Farrakhan's 16.9 points per game, which ranks seventh in the conference. Farrahan leads all MAC freshmen in scoring, and is the third-highest scoring freshman in the country. 

SCORIN' NORMAN
Western Michigan junior guard Lamar Norman Jr. sits atop the MAC at 19.6 points per game, and leads the conference in league play at 20.6 points per contest. Norman has scored double-digit points in 26 of 28 games this season, is one of two players in the conference to have three 30+ point games, and his 14 games of 20+ points are third-most in the league. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native leads the MAC at 3.3 made threes per game. 

CLOSING IN ON A RECORD
With his two three-pointers on Saturday at Bowling Green, Lamar Norman Jr. increased his season total to 91, tying him for the single-season program record. Levi Rost set the single-season mark with made 91 made three-pointers during the 2004-05 season. 

MAKING HIS MARK
Redshirt sophomore Markeese Hastings ranks in the top-10 of the MAC in several categories, including rebounding (2nd, 8.8), offensive rebounding (3rd, 3.1), defensive rebounding (T-2nd, 5.7) and field goal percentage (10th, .500). In league play, Hastings is third in the MAC at 9.9 rebounds per game, and his 18 rebounds at Toledo on Dec. 29 is tied for the highest single-game total by a MAC player this season.

THE GODWIN HEIGHTS CONNECTION
Former Godwin Heights HS teammates Lamar Norman Jr. and Markeese Hastings are all over the MAC leaderboards and climbing in the national rankings as well. Norman ranks 28th nationally in points per game (19.6), 26th in total points (549), 37th in made field goals (194), 14th in made threes per game (3.3) and 15th in total threes made (91). Hastings sits 34th in rebounds per game (8.8), 29th in total rebounds (255) and 31st in offensive rebounds per game (3.1).

358 AND COUNTING
WMU made 11 three-pointers on Saturday and has made at least one three-pointer in 358 straight games dating back to 2011. 

ON THE HORIZON
The Broncos return to University Arena on Friday for Senior Night against Ball State.
