DEKALB, Ill. – Junior
Payton Murphy scored a 39.350 all-around record, but the Western Michigan gymnastics team finished fourth at the Northern Illinois "Beauty and the Beast" Quad Meet on Sunday night.
The Broncos scored 194.050, while Iowa State won the meet with a total of 196.275, Central Michigan finished second with a 196.125, and NIU was third with a score of 195.500.
Murphy's all-around score was good for second, just 0.025 behind the top all-arounder. She registered a 9.850 on bars and floor, and scored a 9.825 on vault and beam. The all-around score of 39.350 is tied for the second best in program history.
Dani Petrousek earned a 9.825 on both vault and bars, and finished with a 38.875 all-around score.
Sarah Moravansky scored a 9.825 on vault, and 9.800 on bars, while
Carissa Ludwig tied for the team-best floor result with a 9.850. Freshman
Molly Freeman turned in a career-best performance of 9.825 on bars.
Looking ahead, WMU will head to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons along with Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.
