Men's Tennis Travels to Notre Dame for Friday Match

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team resumes action on Friday, traveling to the University of Notre Dame for a match with the Fighting Irish at 4 p.m.

The match was originally scheduled for Jan. 19 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19 issues within UND's program.

The Broncos and the Fighting Irish have a long history, with Notre Dame leading the all-time series at 43-21. WMU's only two losses last season came against UND, including a 4-1 loss in the NCAA Regionals. Notre Dame is 6-2 in dual matches so far this season and is coming off a double-header split with Northwestern and Chicago State. UND fell to the Wildcats 4-1 and rebounded with a 4-0 win over CSU.

SNAPPING THE STREAK
Western Michigan's 6-1 win over Michigan State snapped a three-match losing streak. The Broncos had loss to No. 17 Michigan, Memphis and Old Dominion before the win against the Spartans. It was WMU's longest losing streak since dropping three straight to Michigan, Michigan State and No. 16 UCLA back on February of 2020.

INTO THE RANKINGS
Last week saw the doubles pairing of Fynn Lohse and Arjun Honnappa jumped into the national ITA Doubles Rankings at No. 54. It's the first time the Broncos have had a doubles pair ranked since Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi reached 39 on Feb. 18, 2020.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Broncos head back on the road next weekend to travel to Drake University to take on the Bulldogs on Friday at 6 p.m. and then Wichita State on Saturday at 12 p.m.
