ITA Scholar Athlete … named MAC Singles Player of the Week on Jan. 24 and MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week on May 2 … with partner Kennosuke Nouchi, Opitz was tabbed as MAC Doubles Team of the Week on April 11 … one of three Broncos to post 30 singles victories, playing primarily at No. 2 and No. 3 … went 53-24 overall with a 30-10 singles record and a stint of 23-14 during doubles … was 9-3 at No. 2 and finished 7-0 against his MAC opponents … from March 2 – April 28 he rode a team-high 12-match winning streak … went 12-6 with partner Nouchi as the two were the primary No. 1 doubles team for the Broncos, going 6-3.

2016-17: ITA Scholar Athlete ... Two-time MAC Doubles Player of the Week with Eric Olivarez … voted WMU’s Doubles Team of the Year with Eric Olivarez …. finished 25-9 in singles including a 13-8 record in duals … started season 9-0 and ended by winning six of his final nine matches … finished 26-8 in doubles including a perfect 11-0 record alongside doubles partner Olivarez to end the season … the two held an impressive 6-0 mark in MAC play.
