YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the 2022 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational on Tuesday, tying for fifth place, at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
The Broncos combined to shoot a 311 on the day and finish with a 931 (+67) for the tournament, tying with Loyola. WMU finished just 11 strokes out of second place. Central Michigan won the tournament with a 902 (+38).
Freshman Megha Vallabhaneni paced the Broncos for the first time this season, finishing with a 54-hole total of 232 (+16). Vallabhaneni was just three strokes shy of a top-10 finish after shooting a final round of 75, moving up 16 total places during the final round. WMU's top four all finished within two strokes of each other. Natalie Samdal finished with a 233 (+17) and Allisa Fish and Jenna Hayes each had a 234 (+18). Ally Barth rounded out WMU's top five with a 250 (+34).
Vallabhaneni finished with 37 pars, the second most among the field, and two birdies in the three rounds. Samdal and Fish each had a team-high seven birdies.
The Broncos have the week off before heading to Birmingham, Mich., to close out the 2022 portion of their season at the Chippewa Invite at the Birmingham Country Club, Oct. 17-18.
