YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team heads across the state for the annual Shirley Spork EMU Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Broncos will take on the Eagles along with Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, Loyola, Oakland and Ohio. The teams will play two rounds on Monday and follow it up with the third on Tuesday. The Eagle Crest Golf Club course measures out 6,100 yards and plays as a par 72.
Coming off of a career-best tournament at the Briar Ridge Invitational, senior Alissa Fish gets a chance to defend her title at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational. In her last tournament she shot a career-best single round of 68 in the final round to force a playoff, but fell just short on the one-hole playoff. Her 36-hole total of 142 was also a career low. She finished the tournament with 23 pars and a team-high six birdies. With her help, the Broncos finished tied for second. Last season Fish shot a 210 to finish first overall after shooting a final round of 70, becoming the first Bronco to win a tournament since 2019.
WMU's second place finish was also a team best on the season after opening the season with two straight third place finishes.
The Broncos will field a lineup of Fish, Ally Barth, Natalie Samdal, Megha Vallabhaneni and Jenna Hayes.
