YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Western Michigan junior Haley Barclay sits a top of the individual leaderboard after the first round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Park Golf Course on Monday.

Barclay leads the field after shooting a 69 (-3) and holds a two-stroke lead on Abbie Pearce of Akron. As a team the Broncos sit tied for sixth place with Dayton after shooting a 313 (+25). The Zips lead the tournament after a 297 (+9) followed by Cleveland State at 302 (+14), Detroit Mercy and host Youngstown State at 306 (+18) and Evansville at 308 (+20). The seven other teams in the field sit behind the Broncos and the Falcons.

Barclay is the first Bronco to break 70 since both Anna Wilcoxson and Kaitlyn Watkins shot a 69 in the final round of the Ball State Cardinal Classic back on Sept. 20, 2016. Barclay made 11 pars on the day and was tied for the round lead with five birdies. She finished -3 on par fives and -1 on par threes.

Brooke Gibbons was WMU's second finisher in the round at 76 (+4) and sits just one stroke outside the top 10 in a six-way tie for 14th. Gibbons had a team-high 12 pars in the opening round and also picked up three birdies. Courtney Imogen finished right behind Gibbons with a 77 (+5) and sits in nine-way tie for 20th. Junior Alissa Fish is right behind her at 78 (+6), while Fiona Khaing rounds out WMU's top five with an 80 (+8).

The final round begins on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
