CLEVELAND – The Western Michigan women's soccer team swept the Mid-American Conference West Division weekly awards with junior forward
Morgan Otteson earning Offensive Player of the Week and junior center back
Emily Dahl earning Defensive Player of the Week.
Both played a pivotal role in WMU's wins over Northern Illinois and Ball State last week.
Otteson had the primary assist on all four of Western Michigan's goals on the week. Against NIU she directly set up both of
Bailey Korhorn's goals to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead over the Huskies. In Sunday's win over BSU she set up the opening goal by Dahl by heading her the ball on a corner kick. She then headed down a ball to
Hannah Redoute later in the second half to push the lead to 2-0 over the Cardinals, leading to the team's first win over Ball State since October 2015.
Dahl helped hold NIU to just one goal and withstand a strong attack at the end of the game. In Sunday's win over the Cardinals she helped the team produce its fourth shutout of the season. She also scored the game-winning goal, the first score of her career, in the first period. Dahl then provided the service and earned the second assist on WMU's second goal of the game. This is the first weekly honors for the Avon, Ohio native.
WMU is back in action on Thursday, hosting Central Michigan at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
