Rivalry Week Continues Against Central Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich -- The Western Michigan Broncos continue their rivalry week road trip against Central Michigan on Sunday. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 pm at the CMU Soccer Complex.

LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos started rivalry week with a 3-1 victory in Ypsilanti over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Broncos improved to 7-3-4 overall and 5-1-1 in the MAC.

Camryn Huhn got the offense started in the 8th minute with her third goal of the season. In the second half, the first collegiate goal for Taryn DeShane would be the eventual game winner. Kaiya Stewart added insurance in the 82nd minute.

ROAD WARRIORS
Western Michigan goes back on the road for the seventh time this season against Central Michigan. The Broncos are unbeaten on the road through conference play thus far, going on the road to beat their MAC opponents by a combined score of 16-4.

Away games have surprisingly been the key to the Broncos success, as WMU also holds a 5-1-1 record overall in road games this season.

NEVER TOO LATE FOR YOUR FIRST
6th year graduate student Taryn DeShane scored her first collegiate goal on Thursday. A corner kick from Meredith Vance set DeShane in the perfect position for a head kick goal, one that has been a long time coming for DeShane.

The Richland, Mich., native was a member of WMU's 2021 recruiting class. DeShane's breakthrough goal marked a milestone moment in a career full of perseverance.

CORNER KICK CONNECTION
Scoring off of corner kicks has been the bread and butter for the Bronco offense. On Thursday, the Brown and Gold scored two of their three goals off of assists from a corner kick.

After finishing with a twelve to seven advantage in corners against EMU, the Broncos improve to 5-2-3 when they have more corner kicks than their opponent. This season, WMU has won the corner kick battle in 62.5% of their games.

SCOUTING THE CHIPS
Central Michigan comes into the contest with a 0-4-3 record in the MAC and a 2-8-4 overall record. They are lead on offense by Ella Betzold, who has four goals and one assist on the season. Goalkeeper Jadia Kershaw comes into the contest tied for the MAC lead in saves with 62 while also posting a 1.79 GAA.

WMU leads the all-time series with a record of 17-16-1. The Chips have not beaten the Broncos since the 2022 season.
