Baseball Welcomes SIU-Edwardsville in Non-Conference Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Having won eight of the last ten games the Western Michigan baseball team looks to continue its winning ways welcoming SIU-Edwardsville for non-conference action this weekend at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field.

Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan enters non-conference action coming off back-to-back Mid-American Conference series victories. The Broncos square off with the Cougars this weekend with an overall record of 10-12 and 10-6 in MAC play. Last weekend WMU hit the road and won three of four over Miami.

On Fire
WMU has won eight of its last 10 games and offensively has scored 65 runs with a .344 batting average during the ten-game stretch. On the mound the Broncos have held opponents to a .218 batting average with 81 strikeouts.

Peak Petersen
LHP Brandon Petersen has won his last two starts and has an overall record of 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA this season. Petersen has been stellar for the Brown & Gold holding opponents to a .098 batting average.

We Want Morrison
Sophomore Will Morrison leads the Broncos and ranks seventh in the MAC with a .354 batting average.

Two is Better Than One
Within the MAC the Broncos rank third in the conference with 43 doubles this season. Junior Justin McIntyre leads WMU with eight followed by Will Morrison and Sean O'Keefe with seven.

Sweet 16
The duo of Connor Charping and Drew Devine each head into the weekend have reached base safely in 16 straight games.

The Crafty Vet
Senior RHP Will Mullen has been dominant on the mound for the Broncos during his senior campaign posting a 3-0 record with a 1.75 ERA in 25.2 innings. Mullen's 1.75 ERA is the third lowest in the MAC.

Home Sweet Home
WMU is 6-2 when playing on its home field with 52 runs scored on 88 hits. As a team inside Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field the Broncos are hitting .373.

Scouting the Competition
SIU-Edwardsville heads into the weekend with an overall record of 15-13 and 8-7 in Ohio Valley Conference action. SIUE has won four of its last six games and won two of three over UT Martin last weekend. Of the 28 games played the Cougars have posted 10 or more runs in seven games.

Offensively SIUE is hitting .275 and is led by John Stallcup who leads the Cougars with a .385 batting average. The Cougars have four players with over 20 RBIs this season and five players with at least four home runs. Leading the way in the power department is Brady Bunten with seven home runs and 28 RBIs to go along with seven doubles and three triples.

As a pitching staff the Cougars have a 5.93 ERA as opponents are hitting .269. At the top of the pitching staff is the duo of Braydon Bone and Brant Glidewell who each have a 3-0 record this season. Bone leads the team with a 1.88 ERA. David Llorens leads SIUE with 34 strikeouts in seven appearances this season.
