KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis program heads on to road to Northern Illinois on Friday at 1 p.m. for the battle of the two unbeaten teams in the Mid-American Conference before returning home to host Butler on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. outdoors at Sorensen Courts.

BATTLE OF THE UNBEATENS
Both the Broncos and the Huskies are 4-0 in MAC play. NIU is 17-1 overall on the season and is on an eight match winning streak. Northern Illinois lone loss this season has come at the hands of DePaul, 4-2, back on March 6. NIU is a perfect 11-0 at home this season.

Mikael Vollbach and Oliver Valentinsson each have 15 wins on the season, with Vollbach going 15-0 overall and 11-0 at No. 6. Bor Schweiger Muzar is 11-5 on the season, playing all of his singles matches at No. 1. Kristopher Ortega and Valentinsson have a team-high 14 wins in doubles play, with an 11-2 record at No. 3 and 3-0 at No. 2. Mikko Malinen and Victor Spolidorio have been paired together for 15 matches with a 9-6 record, going 5-4 at No. 1 and 4-2 at No. 2. Muzar and Vollbach are 9-3 with a 5-2 record at No. 1 and 5-1 at No. 2.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The match against Butler was originally scheduled for Feb. 26-27 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Bulldog program. BU plays DePaul on Friday before making its trip to Kalamazoo and currently sits with a 4-5 record on the season. Thomas Brennan, Alvaro Huete Vadillo and Michael Karr are all tied for the team lead in singles wins with four on the season. Four different pairs have one win on the season in doubles play.

ONE WIN MORE
Senior Jannik Opitz heads into the weekend needing just one more singles victory to tie the program record for career singles win of 115. Opitz already holds the program records for career doubles wins and total wins, both set earlier this season.

ON THE HORIZON
The Broncos make the New York swing next weekend, heading to Buffalo on Friday and Binghamton on Sunday. WMU's next home match is on Friday, April 16 against Ball State.
