Men's Tennis Wins 30th MAC Regular Season Championship After Win at UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team won the program's 30th Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship after defeating UIC, 5-2, on the road on Saturday afternoon. 

The Broncos (15-9, 8-2 MAC) put the pressure on early after winning the doubles point. Jack Davison and Ashton Adesoro earned a quick 6-0 win over Youssef Hamad and Mihailo Savic at No. 3. The Flames responded shortly after when Artem Alekseychuk and Victor Dorojan picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 over Oscar Corwin and Alex Antonopoulos. Tim Riedel and Drew Evans secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Eldin Nokic and Henrique Sa at No. 1.

Davison pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Dorojan to open singles. UIC rattled off two straight points to tie it up at 2-2 with wins by Alekseychuk at No. 2 and Simon Knezevic at No. 4. Sophomore Oscar Corwin gave the lead back to Western Michigan with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Savic. 

The match-winning point was clinched by Riedel at No. 5. The graduate student beat Emil Dapcevic 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Adesoro then finished up his three-set win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 over Nokic to set the final score. 

Western Michigan finishes the regular season tied with Buffalo. The co-MAC Championship Bulls hold the tie-breaker over the Broncos due to the total points scored in the two matches between the teams, 9-5. 

WMU now heads to Buffalo for the 2026 MAC Tournament Championships. The Broncos will play in the second semifinal match on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Northern Illinois. The Bulls will play fourth-seeded Ball State on Saturday at 10 a.m. The MAC Tournament Championship Match is scheduled for next Sunday at 1 p.m.
