Men's Tennis Heads to NIU and UIC With Shot at a MAC Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- With a chance at a Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship, the Western Michigan men's tennis team heads on the road to take on Northern Illinois on Thursday at 2 p.m. and then UIC on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

LAST WEEK
Western Michigan hosted Ball State and secured its trip to the MAC Tournament with a 5-2 win over the Cardinals, extending its winning streak to five matches. The Broncos started off strong by taking the doubles point. Ball State tied it up with a quick win at No. 2 and then took the lead, 2-1. with a win at No. 6. From there, the Broncos rattled off wins by Tim Riedel, Ashton Adesoro, and Chen-Hui Ho to secure the victory. Oscar Corwin earned WMU's fifth and final point. 

CHAMPIONSHIP SCENARIOS
Wins over NIU and UIC will guarantee Western Michigan a share of the MAC Regular Season Championship with Buffalo. The Broncos can win it outright if it wins against NIU and UIC and Buffalo loses to Toledo on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois sits in a three-way tie for first place with the Broncos and the Bulls, all with two losses in MAC play. The Huskies lost at Buffalo, 5-2, last Thursday and then rebounded with a 6-1 win on the road against the Rockets. 

NIU has been extremely tough to beat at home this season, heading into Thursday with an 11-2 record. The Huskies also host Ball State on Saturday at 12 p.m.

SCOUTING THE FLAMES
UIC is the lone team in the MAC still searching for a win in conference play, heading into this week's action with an 0-8 record. The Flames host Ball State on Thursday at 1 p.m. 

TOURNAMENT TIME
Western Michigan heads to Buffalo next week for the 2026 MAC Tournament. The Broncos, Bulls, Huskies and Cardinals have all locked in their spots. Ball State will be the No. 4 seed, while the other three spots are still up for grabs. 

If Western Michigan and Buffalo finish the weekend sharing the MAC title, the Bulls hold the tie-breaker and will be the No. 1 seed.
