KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team picked up its 14th win on the season and improved to 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play after beating Binghamton, 7-0, at WMU's Sorensen Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos earned the doubles point in quick fashion. WMU's pairings of
Arjun Honnappa and
Fynn Lohse,
Zac Faveri and
Jannik Opitz, and
Peter Kuszynski and
Joaquin Caballer each won 6-0.
Opitz opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Michael Pawlowicz to put the Broncos up 2-0. The win also moves Opitz within two of tying the all-time singles wins record in program history.
Jackson Boone pushed the lead to 3-0 with a win over Diego Ramos at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3.
Brogan Pierce played at No. 6, winning over Luke Karniewich 6-0, 6-1, clinching the win for WMU after putting them up 4-0. Freshman
Benjamin George won over Adi Ben Bari at No. 5, 6-0 , 6-0 and
Peter Kuszynski won at No. 2 against Dan Pergel 6-3, 6-2. Lohse finished up the match with a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 3 against Shourya Verma.
Western Michigan is back in action on Sunday at 11 a.m. hosting Buffalo outdoors at Sorensen Courts.
