KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team opens Mid-American Conference play this weekend, heading on the road to take on Ball State on Friday at 2 p.m. and to Toledo on Sunday for another 2 p.m. match.
The Broncos enter MAC play on a four-game winning streak that included three wins in three days last weekend.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
After dropping the first match of a double-header against Notre Dame, 6-1, Ball State hasn't lost since. The Cardinals are winners of 10 straight and are 6-0 at home this season. Sajin Smith has a team-high nine wins in singles action, playing primarily at No. 4 and No. 5. Thibault De Negri and Danilo Kovacevic have split time at No. 1 singles this season, with De Negri going 4-2 and Kovacevic posting a 3-2 record. Chris Adams is 8-1, all at No. 3 this season, and Eli Herran is undefeated at 8-0, playing primarily at No. 5 and 6.
SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
Toledo is 4-2 on the season and hosts Northern Illinois on Friday before welcoming the Broncos on Sunday. The Rockets have won two straight, with victories over Tiffin and Xavier to close out the month of February. Wojciech Szczesny has been the top singles player for Toledo, posting a 4-0 record this season. He was named MAC Singles Player of the Week back on March 3.
THRICE IS NICE
This week marked the third time this season the Broncos have swept the MAC Weekly Awards.
Fynn Lohse earned MAC Men's Singles Player of the Week and him and his partner
Arjun Honnappa were also named MAC Men's Doubles Team of the Week. Back on Feb. 17 freshman
Brogan Pierce earned Singles Player of the Week and the team of freshman
Joaquin Caballer and junior
Peter Kuszynski earned Doubles Team of the Week. The first time the Broncos swept the awards was back on Feb. 10 when seniors
Jannik Opitz and
Zac Faveri took the doubles award and Opitz earned the singles prize.

Western Michigan returns home to continue MAC play next weekend, hosting Binghamton on Saturday at 12 p.m. and Buffalo on Sunday at 10 a.m.
