YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Payton Murphy posted the second-best score in school history to capture the all-around title at the Eagle Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Broncos scored a victory over Kent State while falling by less than one-half point to Ball Sate and Eastern Michigan.
Ball State posted the top score of the afternoon at 195.975, followed closely by Eastern Michigan's 195.800 and Western Michigan's 195.575. Kent State rounded out the field at 194.825.
Murphy's 39.325 all-around score was keyed by her second-straight 9.900 score on balance beam, a career-high. She also scored a career-high on floor exercise at 9.875, while matching her career-best on vault at 9.800 to go with 9.750 on the uneven bars. Her 9.900 on balance beam wasn't the only mark at that level on the day for the Broncos, as
Stacie Harrison posted 9.900 on floor exercise, tying for first in the event.
Freshman
Sarah Moravansky set a trio of bests in her young career, tying Murphy on the vault at 9.800, matching
Alexis Olivier for WMU's top score on the uneven bars at 9.800 and recording a 9.875 on the floor. Sophomore Roni Binstock set a collegiate best in all-around at 38.900, good for second in the meet.
