KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season after a 7-0 win over Chicago State at West Hills Athletic Club on Thursday.
WMU swept the doubles point, led by sophomore
Arjun Honnappa and junior
Fynn Lohse at No. 1, who defeated Jakov Suler and Max Sandoval, 6-1. Reigning MAC Doubles Team of the Week
Jannik Opitz and
Zac Faveri defeated Jesus Perez and Jakub Zamorski at No. 2, 6-3. Junior
Peter Kuszynski and freshman
Joaquin Caballer wrapped up doubles with a win over Pedro Alverez and Javier Sanchez, 6-4.
Opitz is now within four victories from tying the all-time wins record at WMU after defeating Suler 6-1, 6-0 to open singles play at No. 1. Honnappa made quick work of Sandoval at No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-1. The third finisher on the day was freshman
Brogan Pierce, who defeated Alverez 6-1, 6-0. Lohse at No. 4 defeated Sanchez 6-2, 6-1, while freshman
Jackson Boone won at No. 3 over Zamorski, 6-2, 6-3. Puszynski wrapped up the match with a 7-6, 5-2 win over Perez.
Western Michigan is back in action on Friday at 5 p.m. against Illinois-Chicago and then travels to Notre Dame on Saturday to take on the Fighting Irish at 3 p.m.
