COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan's Michael Joyaux has been named Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference Defenseman of the Week after his performance in WMU's split with No. 1 Michigan over the weekend.
Joyaux had two assists in each game against the Wolverines, while helping the Broncos hold the nation's top power play to just one goal on 11 opportunities. In Friday's 5-2 win he directly set up the game-winning goal by Ethen Frank that made it 3-0. He then assisted on Cole Gallant's goal that pushed the lead to 5-2. Joyaux also blocked a career-high seven shots on the night and helped the PK go a perfect 6-for-6.
In Saturday's overtime loss he assisted on both of WMU's goals, helping the Broncos come back from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime.
This is Joyaux's third career Bauer NCHC Defenseman of the Week award and the first this season. It also mark's the second weekly honors earned by a Bronco after Frank was named Forward of the Week after the season-opening series with Ferris State.
Western Michigan heads out on the road to take on Colgate, who received votes in both polls, on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. Both games can be seen live on ESPN+ and heard live on the Bronco Radio Network. WMU returns home to open NCHC play on Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov 6 against No. 4 Minnesota Duluth. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and visiting www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
