Broncos Add Cole Spicer for 2025-26 Season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey program and head coach Pat Ferschweiler have announced the signing of forward Cole Spicer for the 2025-26 season. 

Spicer was taken by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. After originally planning to attend Arizona State this season, Spicer ends up in Kalamazoo after spending last season with the USHL's Dubuque Fighting Saints. Prior to that, he played two seasons with Minnesota Duluth. 

The Grand Forks, N.D. native was a USHL standout in 2024-25, producing 35 points on nine goals and 26 assists. He led the Fighting Saints in points per game (0.95) and added five points (2-3-5) in five playoff games. 

He was also productive for UMD in 2022-23 and 2023-24, scoring 15 points on eight goals and seven assists. Along with that, he has two game-winning goals, two power-play goals and 257 faceoffs wins in his college career. 

Spicer is the 11th newcomer to the roster this season. Prior to his arrival, the Brown and Gold announced the addition of four transfers and six freshmen to the roster. 

The Broncos will open the season with an exhibition against the USNTDP on Saturday, Oct. 4. The regular-season opener will take place on Thursday, Oct. 9 at home against Ferris State.
