Women’s Basketball Prepares for Road Game at BGSU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team prepares for its second meeting of the season with Bowling Green on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 27. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. from the Stroh Center.

Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan enters Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 2-8 and 1-7 in Mid-American Conference play. The Broncos are coming off a 69-63 loss to Ohio at home last Saturday. WMU is just 14-19 all-time against BGSU inside the Stroh Center but has won four of the last five meetings at BGSU.

Double-Double Week
Redshirt freshman Taylor Williams averaged a double-double last week with 16 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Williams also shot a staggering 70.6 percent from the field last week. Overall Williams ranks second on the team with 11 points per game and leads the Broncos at nine rebounds per contest.

Shafer is the Spark Off the Bench
In the last four games sophomore Sydney Shafer has come off the bench for the Broncos and has provided a spark for the Brown & Gold. Over the four-game span, Shafer is averaging 12.5 points per game and shooting 36.9 percent from the floor.

Need An Assist
Since being inserted into the starting line-up four games ago freshman Megan Wagner has averaged 4.3 assists per game including a season-high six against Ohio. Wagner leads the Broncos with 23 assists.

Double Digit Trio
The trio of redshirt senior Reilly Jacobson, redshirt freshman Taylor Williams and sophomore Sydney Shafer are each averaging in double figures. Jacobson leads the team at 13.4 points per game followed by Williams at 11 points and Shafer at 10.9.

The trio has combined to score 353 points this season, accounting for 56.8 percent for WMU's total offense.

Block It Up
Taylor Williams ranks fourth in the MAC at 1.2 blocks per game while ranking fourth overall in the conference at 12. As a team, WMU ranks seventh in the MAC at 2.4 blocks per game.

What's Next?
Following Wednesday's contest the Broncos are back at home on Saturday, Jan. 30 against Ball State. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. inside University Arena.
