SENIOR NIGHT CELEBRATION
The Broncos will celebrate the team's four seniors,
Chelayne Bailey,
Jillian Fletcher,
Breanna Mobley and
Kamrin Reed, following the conclusion of Saturday's game. The four have helped oversee the dramatic turnaround in 2019-20 for the Broncos, who already own six more league wins than a year ago and seven more overall victories. Earlier this season, Mobley became the program's career leader in rebounds while Reed graduated in December with her degree in sports management. Bailey poured in a season-high 18 points at Ball State and has started 26 games after joining the program following her graduation from Syracuse. Fletcher delivered her first steal of the season Thursday at EMU and has played in 42 games since arriving in Kalamazoo after her transfer from West Virginia State.
LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos downed Eastern Michigan 53-49 on March 4 to take possession of fourth place in the MAC with one game left in the regular season.
Jordan Walker had 14 points and nine rebounds while
Leighah-Amori Wool tallied 12 points with six rebounds. Graduate transfer
Chelayne Bailey also reached double-digits with 10 points.
Breanna Mobley finished with eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds with three assists. The Broncos shot 34.5 percent (19-for-55) from the field and dominated defensively with 22 points off EMU turnovers.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Western Michigan heads into Saturday's contest with a 10-7 record in conference play, averaging 69.4 points per game and 38 rebounds. The squad is led by
Jordan Walker and
Breanna Mobley. Walker has led the team in scoring this season with 15.6 points per game, while Mobley averages a double-double with 14.0 points and 11.0 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals lead the all-time series with Western Michigan, holding a 45-39 advantage, but Western Michigan leads at home with a 21-17 record. The Broncos dropped a close game to the Cardinals earlier this season on the road.
Chelayne Bailey led the Broncos with a career-high 18 points,
Leighah-Amori Wool tallied 15 points, and
Jordan Walker had 14 points with seven rebounds.
Breanna Mobley was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 15 rebounds. Mobley reached the milestone of 1,000 rebounds in the game.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Ball State currently holds a 20-9 record with a 12-5 mark (second) in the MAC West division. They finished the nonconference season 8-4 under eighth-year head coach Brady Sallee. The Cardinals head into Saturday's game having dropped their most recent contest to Northern Illinois 70-62. They are led by Oshlynn Brown in scoring (13.3 points per game), rebounding (9.8 per game), and steals.
SCORING MACHINE
Redshirt sophomore
Jordan Walker continues to lead the Broncos with an average of 15.8 points per game, earning her a spot at seventh overall in the Mid-American Conference. Walker broke a trio of personal records in Saturday's game against Northern Illinois. Her 33 points, 13 field goals and seven three-point shots all replaced her previous records of 32 points, 11 field goals and five threes, set at the first round of the MAC Tournament against Bowling Green in March of 2018.
RECORD-BREAKING BRONCO
Breanna Mobley is dominating the rebounding category this season, breaking multiple records in her senior season. Mobley surpassed 1,000 rebounds against Ball State to become the second-ever Bronco to have scored 1,000 points and rebounds in her career. She became a member of the 1,000-point club against Miami on Jan. 20, 2018. The record puts her alongside former WMU legend and coach Pat Charity, who hit the milestone in the 1977-78 season. On Feb. 3 against Miami (Ohio), Mobley moved up to 1,028 rebounds to tie the all-time rebounding record, also earned by Charity, and broke the record on Feb. 8 against Eastern Michigan to move to 1,038 rebounds in her career. Mobley now holds the rebounding record for all of Bronco basketball.
ASSIST GAME STRONG
Western Michigan ranks fifth in the Mid-American conference in assists, with seven players contributing assists in the double-digits, four of whom are starters for the squad. On February 15 against Northern Illinois, several Broncos broke into new helper milestones.
Chelayne Bailey surpassed 90 assists to continue leading the team with the eighth-highest number in the MAC.
Leighah-Amori Wool ranks 14
th in the conference and passed 70 assists on the season, while
Jordan Walker hit the 60-assists mark and
Breanna Mobley got to 30 total.
