PHILADELPHIA – Western Michigan hockey senior forward Wade Allison has signed an entry-level contract with the National League Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers, as announced by the team on Friday night.
Allison played four seasons with the Broncos, appearing 105 career games and tallying 97 points on 45 goals and 52 assists despite battling injuries. Allison, who was drafted by the Flyers in the second round (52nd overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft, burst on to the scene at WMU as a freshman, scoring 29 points on 12 goals and 17 assists while helping the Broncos to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. As a sophomore he had 30 points on 15 goals and 15 assists in just 22 games before his season was cut shot due to an injury. Allison's performance that season was so dominant that he was still named All-NCHC Honorable Mention despite appearing in just 12 conference games.
"We are very happy to have Wade under contract," said Flyers Vice President & Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr in a release by Philadelphia. "He possesses a great package of size, speed, and skill and we strongly believe he'll be an NHL power forward moving forward."
The Myrtle, Manitoba, native played in another 22 games due to injuries as a junior, still managing 15 points on eight goals and seven assists. He wrapped up his senior year with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists in 26 games.
"We are excited for Wade and the Flyers that they reached a contract agreement," said WMU head coach Andy Murray. "Wade is an elite player that is your prototypical power forward. He is respected greatly by his teammates and our fans. His personality and passion for the game is special."
Allison becomes the sixth Bronco to sign a NHL contract this offseason, joining Cam Lee (Pittsburgh Penguins), Hugh McGing (St. Louis Blues), Austin Rueschhoff (New York Rangers), Dawson DiPietro (Buffalo Sabres) and Mattias Samuelsson (Buffalo Sabres).
