Western Michigan has four home dual meets this season. After Sunday, the Broncos host Bowling Green on Sunday, February 2; Ball State on Sunday, February 9; and Kent State on Sunday, March 8.
On Saturday, March 21, the Broncos will also host the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championships.
This year's squad will be led by seniors
Taylor Buis and
Amelia Mohler. Also returning are juniors
Morgan Spence, 2018 MAC Freshman of the Year;
Stacie Harrison, 2018 MAC uneven bars champion;Â and
Alexis Olivier, 2019 MAC uneven bars champion. Head coachÂ
Penny Jernigan is in her seventh season leading the WMU program.
The Broncos and Spartans have not faced each other in a dual meet since WMU earned a 195.000-194.775 victory on February 21, 2014. In that contest, the teams posted even scores in the first and second rotations, but the Broncos broke away in the third to pick up the victory. Western Michigan used its best balance beam score of the year to pull away in the third rotation, hitting six beautiful routines, totaling a 48.725. Two faulty floor performances, including one with an out-of-bounds deduction, cost Michigan State on floor, where the Spartans registered a 48.225. The Broncos sealed the win on the floor exercise with a 48.650 while MSU went 48.925 on beam.
Following Sunday's tilt, the Broncos head to Tucson, Ariz., for the Arizona Quad Meet, featuring the host Wildcats, Iowa State and Rutgers. Action begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 11.
