TUCSON, Ariz. - The Western Michigan gymnastics team placed fourth out of four teams at the Arizona Quad Meet with the University of Arizona, Iowa State and Rutgers on Saturday. The Broncos scored a 191.800, while the host Wildcats won with a 195.950. The Cyclones finished second with 195.750 and the Knights posted a 194.250 to take third.
WMU had its highest finish of the day on the floor, where junior
Stacie Harrison took second with a 9.850. The performance was the highest floor score of the campaign for the Broncos. Junior
Morgan Spence tied for third on the floor with a 9.825.
In the overall scores, freshman
Charlotte Tishkoff claimed fourth with a 37.925 while classmate
Ronni Binstock finished fifth with a 37.800.
On the beam, rookie
Amanda Gruber was Western Michigan's top performer with a 9.750 to tie for 13th. Harrison tied for sixth on the bars with a 9.775 score and freshman
Josephine Thomas posted a 9.775 on the vault to tie for fifth .
Western Michigan opens Mid-American Conference action with a 7:30 p.m. meet at Northern Illinois on Friday. The Huskies were picked second in the preseason MAC poll while the Broncos were picked to finish fifth.
