GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Western Michigan assistant hockey coach Todd Krygier has left the program to accept an assistant coaching position with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL affiliate of the 11-time Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.

Krygier spent three seasons with the Broncos, helping the team to a NCAA Tournament berth in 2017 and a third place finish in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, tying a program-best, in 2019. WMU won 58 games during the three seasons and scored 377 goals during the stretch, including finishing the 2018-19 season tied for fourth in the nation in goals per game at 3.47. In addition to development and recruiting, Krygier also coached a power play unite that twice eclipsed 20 percent.

"Todd was a tremendous part of our success over the past three seasons," said WMU head hockey coach Andy Murray. "His work on the recruiting trail has helped ensure the future success of this program and his coaching and mentorship has helped improve our current student-athletes."

Krygier's replacement has already been identified and will be finalized and announced as soon as possible.
