Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into Wednesday's contest with an overall record of 8-20 and 2-5 in Mid-American Conference play. Last weekend the Broncos dropped two of three at defending conference champion Kent State with their lone win coming in game two on Saturday, 11-1.
Top 50 Offense
With a .291 batting average, WMU ranks 42nd in the NCAA and third in the MAC. WMU has six players hitting over .300 this season and has scored in double figures six times.
Consider It (Blake) Dunn
Sophomore
Blake Dunn has done it all at the plate for the Broncos this year, leading the MAC and ranking 12th in the NCAA with a .421 batting average. Dunn has currently reached base safely in 29 straight games while also ranking 19
th in the country with 19 stolen bases.
Road Warriors
WMU along with Seton Hall are the only two NCAA Division I schools to have not played a home game this season. The Broncos return to Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field for a weekend series against Northern Illinois, April 12-14.
The WMU Long Ball
The Broncos have recorded 22 home runs in 28 games, matching their season total from a year ago. Dunn along with senior
Jesse Forestell each lead the team with four home runs.
Better Late Than Never
WMU has outscored its opponents 27-7 in the ninth inning this season. In conference play the Broncos have outscored their opponent 18-1 in the final inning.
Scouting the Competition
Notre Dame heads into the week with an overall record of 12-17 and 7-8 in ACC play. Prior to their match-up with the Broncos the Fighting Irish will square off with Michigan State on Tuesday, April 9.
The Fighting Irish are led offensively by Spencer Myers who leads the team in batting average (.306) and runs scored (26). Eric Gilgenbach leads Notre Dame with seven home runs and 29 RBIs.
