DEKALB, Ill. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team wrapped up the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships at Northern Illinois University on Saturday with
Alexis Olivier sharing a MAC title in the bars.
The Broncos finished in sixth place with 193.750. The host Huskies took the team MAC title with 195.975, followed by Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. WMU had a team-high score of 48.975 in the bars.
Olivier tied with CMU's Gianna Plaska and Kent State's Dara Williams for the top spot in the bars with a score of 9.850. She is just the fourth Bronco to win a title in the bars and the second-straight year after
Stacie Harrison won it last season. Harrison,
Amelia Mohler, and
Morgan Spence also had strong performances in the bars, tying for sixth with a 9.800.
Senior Rachel Underwood finished in second in the all-around with a score of 39.200. Underwood finished with a 9.775 in the vault, 9.700 in the bars, 9.850 on the beam and 9.875 on the floor. She was WMU's top finisher in the floor, beam, and vault. The Cary, Ill., native also took home the MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year, the second Bronco to do so in the past three years, joining
Jessie Peszek (2017).
Western Michigan opened its rotation on the beam, combining to score 47.600. After a bye WMU followed up on the floor with a 48.625, the second-highest score by the team on the day. The Broncos had another by before turning in a score of 48.550 on the vault and wrapped up the meet on the bars after another bye.
