WMU Readies for Midweek Match-up at No. 23 Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In midweek action the Western Michigan baseball team will travel to Ann Arbor for a match-up against No.23 Michigan on Tuesday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m.

Scouting the Broncos
Last weekend at Butler, WMU won the series opener 2-1 over the Bulldogs before dropping the final two games of the series. Heading into Tuesday the Broncos have an overall record of 6-12 and have the 19th ranked offense in the NCAA with a .308 team batting average.

WMU vs. Michigan
It will be the 157th meeting between Western Michigan and Michigan with the Broncos trailing the all-time series 74-80-2. It will be the second straight year the two in-state foes have met as WMU seeks its first win over the Wolverines since 2013.

Consider It Dunn
Sophomore Blake Dunn leads the Broncos and ranks second in the Mid-American Conference with a .408 batting average. Dunn is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 18 straight games.

Crafty Lefties
Over the weekend at Butler the Brown & Gold used six left handed pitchers that threw a combined 16.2 innings and registered a 2.22 earned run average and 17 strikeouts.

One of the Top Offenses in the NCAA
With a team batting average of .308 the Broncos rank 19th in the NCAA and first in the MAC. WMU also ranks 31st in the nation in total hits, 58th in slugging percentage.

Windy City Power
Chicago, Ill., native Jesse Forestell has been a potent offensive threat during the early portion of the season for the Broncos, ranking first in the conference with four home runs. Forestell had just two career home runs prior to this season.

Scouting the Competition
Michigan heads into Tuesday's match-up ranked No.23 in the country with an overall record of 13-4. The Wolverines last weekend earned a four-game sweep of Manhattan at home, outscoring the Jaspers 48-10.
The Wolverines have been dominant on the mound this season ranking eighth in the NCAA with a 2.42 ERA. Michigan also ranks fourth in the nation, allowing just 6.22 hits per nine innings.
