BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan gymnastics team wrapped up its regular season, falling at Bowling Green 195.325-194.075 on Friday night at Anderson Arena.
WMU started off strong in the bars with Stacie Harrison and Morgan Spence tied for second with a 9.800, while Taylor Buis finished in fifth with a mark of 9.750.
"Our bars lineup hit six-for-six routines to start us off," said head coach Penny Jernigan. "Stacie's set was dynamic and one of her best this season."
The Broncos also showed well on the vault with Buis finishing tied for first with a 9.850. Rachael Underwood tied for third with a score of 9.825. Shailyn St. Brice and Stacie Harrison also scored a 9.750.
"Taylor really stood out," added Jernigan. "She got great height off the table, stuck the landing and scored a career-high. Rachael anchored us with another strong vault this week."
Freshman Emily Carless had the team's top finish in the beam at 9.850, backed up by Underwood in third with a score of 9.800. Underwood added another strong performance in the floor, tying for first with a score of 9.875.
"Rachael put together a strong all-around performance that was highlighted by her score on the floor," said Jernigan. "She's really hitting her stride at the right time.
Underwood finished second in the all-around, finishing just behind BGSU's Jovannah East at 39.225.
Western Michigan now heads to Northern Illinois next Saturday for the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championship.
