KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan gymnastics team travels to Ypsilanti for a regular season meet against Eastern Michigan on Friday, Feb. 8. Action from the Convocation Center begins at 6 p.m.

Friday's meet will not count towards the Mid-American Conference standings, as Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan actually face each other three times this season. The MAC dual between the two teams is scheduled for March 10 in Kalamazoo.

The first time WMU and EMU crossed paths this season was on Jan. 18, in a non-conference tri-meet at Northern Illinois. The Broncos took third in that outing with a 192.000. NIU took first with a 194.675, ahead of Eastern Michigan in second with a 194.300.

Western Michigan is looking for its second victory of the season after kicking off 2019 with a 195.075 to 193.950 victory over preseason favorite Northern Illinois in a MAC dual. The 195.075 is WMU's highest total of the year.

Through five meets this season, Western Michigan is averaging a team score of 193.294, which is fifth-best among MAC schools. Eastern Michigan is third with a 193.670. Uneven bars have been the Broncos' strength, as the team is averaging a league-best 48.775 and is coming off a season-high 48.950 performance last week at Ball State.

WMU had three of the top four individual scores on the bars at Ball State. Junior Amelia Mohler won the event with a 9.850, followed by sophomore Morgan Spence in second with a 9.825. Sophomore Stacie Harrison tied for third, recording a 9.800. Spence leads the MAC in terms of average on the bars with a 9.800. Mohler is ranked fifth with a 9.775 and three other Broncos come in the top 10.

Following Friday's meet at Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan returns home to host Towson on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. It will be the Broncos' Mental Health Awareness Meet.
