RALEIGH, N.C. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team took second in a tri-meet at North Carolina State University inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday night.
The Wolfpack finished first with a score of 195.350. The Broncos took second with a 193.675, ahead of William & Mary (190.800).
Alexis Olivier tied for second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.800, while Amelia Mohler tied for second on the balance beam with a 9.800.
Rachael Underwood had WMU's top performance in the floor exercise, tying for second place with a score of 9.825. Underwood was also the Broncos' top finisher on vault, taking fifth with a score of 9.725.
The Broncos took second and third in the all-around, with Morgan Spence finishing with a 38.900, just behind NC State's Caitlyn Fillard. Underwood finished in third with a score of 38.875.
"Morgan and Emily started us off with two great back to back routines on beam," said head coach Penny Jernigan. "Amelia nailed her routine in the fifth spot and she really shined. Emily led us off with her best floor routine of the season. Morgan and Rachael hit exceptional floor routines too.
"Taylor Buis was out with an injury this week so we had three who stepped in for her, Shailyn on beam, Jackie on vault and Carissa on bars. All three stepped up and hit for the team. Alexis was our last competitor of the night and she rocked her bar set."
Western Michigan is back on the road next Friday, traveling to Kent State for a Mid-American Conference dual meet at 7 p.m.
