CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Game one for Western Michigan baseball at Southeast Missouri State has been suspended due to darkness in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Broncos trailing 5-1. The game will resume at 11:00am on Sunday, Feb. 17.
The game was suspended in the bottom of the eighth inning with SEMO batting with one out and the bases loaded. After the conclusion of game one, the Broncos and RedHawks will play a doubleheader to conclude the weekend series.
Southeast Missouri State got on the board first in the bottom of the sixth inning after a sacrifice fly scored the RedHawk runner from third with the bases loaded.
It didn't take long for the Broncos to respond as senior
Jesse Forestell blasted his first home run of the season over the right center field wall in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 1-1.
SEMO regained the lead in the bottom half of the seventh after an error plated two runs. The RedHawks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth before play was suspended due to darkness.
Redshirt junior
Jack Szott got the ball on the mound on Opening Day and dazzled throwing five scoreless innings, giving up just one hit. Szott held the RedHawks hitless until the bottom of the fifth.
