Men's Tennis Adds Crespo for 2019-20

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team has added another to its 2019 recruiting class as head coach Dave Morin has announced the signing of future Bronco Rodrigo Crespo to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) Tuesday, Feb. 19. Crespo will be eligible to compete for the Brown & Gold starting the 2019-20 season.

Crespo becomes the second member of WMU's recruiting class for next season, along with Arjun Honnappa, who signed a NLI to Western Michigan in late January.

A native of San José, Costa Rica, Crespo has achieved national titles on ten different occasions, including a No. 1 Under-18 ranking in Costa Rica in 2018-2019. In his last seven International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournaments, Crespo has compiled a 13-6 singles record and achieved a 439 ITF ranking in 2018.

Standing at 6'0'', Crespo attends Saint Paul College in Costa Rica. His plethora of national accomplishments include two Costa Rica Junior Davis Cups, a pair of ITF doubles championships, one ITF singles title, along with runner up finishes in Central America and the Caribbean during U-16 competition.

"We're very excited to have Rodrigo joining us next year," said assistant coach Pablo Nunez. "He is an all-around player that has shown the ability to compete at a high level. His commitment to improving his game combined with his experience will have a positive impact on our program."
