SILVER LAKE, Ohio – Western Michigan senior Jasmine Chee sits in third place while the WMU golf team is in fifth place after two rounds at the Mid-American Conference Fall Preview at Silver Lake Country Club on Monday.
Chee shot a pair of 76's on the day for a 151 (+8), just one shot out of second place and four behind the leader, Kent State's Sitanun Jonglikit. The Broncos combined to open the day with a 321 and then shot a 314 for a 36-hole total of 635 (+59). Host Akron leads at 627 (+51), followed by Eastern Michigan at 630 (+54) and Ball State and Toledo tied at 633 (+57). WMU sits seven shots ahead of sixth place Bowling Green, followed behind Ohio, Central Michigan and Youngstown State. KSU sent individuals to compete, but not as a team.
"On a tough golf course with some tricky hole locations, we fought hard today," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "We need to reduce our big numbers tomorrow and we will be right there. Jasmine continues her great consistent play as our senior leader. Tomorrow presents another great opportunity for us."
Chee finished second on the day in both par four scoring, +5, and par five scoring, -1. The Hong Kong native had 25 pars to go with two birdies on the day. Junior Cameryn Lucia was WMU's second finisher on the day, shooting a 158 (+14) after an opening round of 81 and a second round of 77, finishing tied for 15th. Freshman Alissa Fish shot a 161 (+17) after an 81 and an 80, while Fiona Wang shot a 164 (+20). Sophomore Imogen Courtney was WMU's fifth finisher on the day with a 167 (+23). Joining Chee was Lucia, and Fish in the top seven rankings in pars, each with 22.
The final round begins on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
