KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan gymnastics and head coach
Penny Jernigan announced the squad's 2020 schedule Thursday. The slate, one of the most challenging in program history, is highlighted by nonconference matchups with Pac-12, Big 10 and Big 12 opponents. The Broncos will also serve as hosts of the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championship.
WMU opens the campaign with home a home competition against Michigan State on January 5.
Western Michigan then travels to Tucson, Ariz., to face Arizona on January 11.
Four consecutive meets against Mid-American Conference foes follow as the Broncos open league action at Northern Illinois on January 17. The Broncos travel to Eastern Michigan on January 24 before hosting Bowling Green on February 2 and Ball State on February 9.
WMU takes a brief conference break with consecutive competitions at Illinois (February 14) and West Virginia (February 23).
The Broncos step back into MAC action at Central Michigan on February 28 before hosting Kent State on March 8.
Western Michigan ends the regular season at Iowa on March 13.
The MAC Championship is set for March 21 in Kalamazoo.
The 2020 NCAA Regional Championships will be April 2-4 with the national championships slated for April 17-18 in Fort Worth, Texas.Â
The Broncos are led by two seniors in 2020 with
Taylor Buis and
Amelia Mohler. Junior
Morgan Spence, the 2018 MAC Freshman of the Year, classmate
Stacie Harrison, the 2018 MAC uneven bars champion, and sophomore
Alexis Olivier, the 2019 MAC uneven bars champion, are also expected to be key contributors.
