KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan gymnastics team was edged by Central Michigan in Sunday's Mid-American Conference dual. The Chippewas took the meet with an overall score of 193.675, while the Broncos tallied a 192.700.
WMU's record is now 1-1 in the MAC standings, while CMU is 1-0.
Bronco senior
Rachael Underwood was the champion on the balance beam, winning the event and tying a career high with 9.875. The 9.875 was the highest score by any gymnast in any event on the day. Competing as an all-arounder, Underwood had three of her four routines counted towards the team total. She also scored a 9.750 on vault, finishing third, and a 9.700 on the uneven bars, taking fifth. Her all-around total was a 38.200.
Sophomore
Morgan Spence also competed as an all-arounder, recording a 38.925. She was runner-up on the floor exercise with a 9.800, third on bars with a 9.750 and fifth on vault, flashing a 9.675.
Sophomore
Stacie Harrison was the runner-up on vault with a 9.800. Junior
Taylor Buis placed third on the beam, scoring a 9.775.
Western Michigan hits the road for two MAC duals over a six-day span. WMU will compete at Ball State on Sunday, Feb. 3 and at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Feb. 8. Sunday's meet against the Cardinals begins at 1 p.m. WMU and EMU begin at 6 p.m. Friday.
