KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team swept its double-header inside West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday, Jan. 26, defeating IUPUI and Chicago State 7-0. With the wins, the Broncos move to 4-1 on the season and stay undefeated at home.
The 4-1 start to the dual-match schedule is the best start to a spring slate since the 2016 Broncos also began its spring campaign 4-1.Â
"Today was a good day," said head coach
Ryan Tomlinson. "Everyone played matches and contributed. It's never easy playing two in one day. We will get back to work next week as we have some things to fine tune. We have a tough stretch of matches the next two weekends and have to be ready to go."
In the first match of the day, the Brown & Gold got off to a hot start taking the match, 7-0 against the IUPUI Jaguars. The Broncos got wins from

Kristina Tiraspolsky and reigning Mid-American Conference doubles team of the week
Melina Lyubomirova and
Femke Tjon-A-Joe at the one and two spot to take the doubles point.
In singles play, WMU took all six matches including
Elizabeth Trupp claiming her first collegiate win in a three-set nail biter for Western Michigan.
Gabriela Slavova also picked up her first dual-match win of the season, defeating Hayward from IUPUI in two sets at the fifth position.
Against Chicago State in the second match of the day, the Broncos defeated the Cougars, 7-0. The Broncos took all three doubles matches, with Lyubomirova/Tjon-A-Joe remaining perfect at home with a 6-1 set win, improving them to 4-1 on the season at the number two spot for doubles.
In singles action against the Cougars, WMU swept, getting wins from Lyubomirova,
Denise Azcui, Fevralev, Tjon-A-Joe, Tiraspolsky, and collecting her first collegiate dual match win,
Taylor Smith.Â

The Broncos, now 4-1 overall, will take their three-game win streak to Bloomington, Indiana next Saturday, Feb. 2 to take on Big Ten foe, Indiana with first serve set for 11 a.m.
