KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team heads on the road to take on Eastern Michigan for its season finale on Sunday at 12 p.m.
A loss by Ball State to Northern Illinois on Friday eliminated WMU's chances at finsihing in the Top 4 of the Mid-American Conference standings and making the MAC Tournament.
LAST WEEK
The Broncos (12-8, 3-4 MAC) had a tough task with the two top teams in the MAC, UMASS and Buffalo. The Broncos hosted the MAC-newcomers on Friday, falling 6-1. WMU then went on the road to take on the Bulls and fell 4-3.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan (10-11, 1-6 MAC) also sees its season come to an end after Sunday's match. The Eagles' lone win came at home against Toledo, 6-1, back on April 3. Cylova Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya leads the team in singles wins with 16 and a 12-8 record in dual matches. She's been EMU's No. 1 for the majority of the saeson, posting an 8-7 record from the spot.
Matilde Parreira and Sabrina Tolstova have been the team's top doubles team with 14 wins, including 10 in dual matches.
GOING OUT ON A HIGH NOTE
Senior
Audrey Smitek wraps up her career on Sunday and does so during a career-best season. Smitek is 21-9 in singles play, with an 14-5 record in dual matches and a 6-1 record in conference play. Combined with her 13 wins in doubles play, she will finish just shy of WMU's Top 50 in total wins.
