BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior middle distance specialist Sarah Anderson ran the 10th current fastest 3,000-meter run time in the nation to highlight the Western Michigan Track & Field team's performance at the first day of the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University on Friday.
Anderson was placed in the fast heat of the race and finished with a personal-best time of 9:34.80 to take third overall, falling just behind Bail Hertenstein of Indiana, who finished at 9:33.76. Anderson's time clobbered her previous personal-best of 10:03.98 that she set last season at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational and the mark ranks fourth all-time in WMU history.Â
The Broncos also had strong performances in the mile run, 60-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and the 5,000-meter run. Junior Erin Dowd won the 400-meter dash after finishing with a time of 55.75 seconds, while junior Juliane Sormain was the top collegiate finisher in the mile run with a time of 5:01.87. Senior Maria McDaniel finished just behind her at 5:04.45 in second place.
Madison Meredith finished in second place in the 60-meter dash after running a time of 7.73 seconds. Sophomore Diamond Mitchell ran 7.85 seconds to take sixth. In the 5,000 the Broncos took sixth and seventh. Pasiley Sipes finished sixth with a time of 18:16.44 and Brittney Hall finished right behind her at 18:33.86.
