KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team will split up for a trio of meets this weekend. The sprints/hurdles/jumps crew will be down south for the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational, while the rest of the squad will be at the Spartan Invite.
TOP-10 PERFORMERS
The Bronco distance squad had a great opening weekend to the outdoor season, competing in the Raleigh Relays on March 27-28.
Lillian Zelasko had a tremendous race in the 10K, jumping into second in program history. She crossed the finish line in a time of 34:05.03.
Then, in the 3K steeplechase,
Ava Kurczewski and
Lily Overton ran with each other the entire way. Kurczewski (10:35.20) now has the third best time in program history and Overton (10:35.36) moved into fourth.
KEY RETURNERS
The sprints/hurdles/jumps group will open its season this weekend down in Texas, and the squad has some big-time returners.
Mabinty Kebe is back after winning the 400-meter hurdles MAC Championship for the second consecutive season. She is also a two-time NCAA East Regional qualifier and claimed 24th in the region last year.
Along with her,
Sandra Ferrari is back after winning the long jump MAC Championship in 2025. She holds the school record in the event and is a two-time regional qualifier. Last season, she placed 27th at the NCAA East Preliminaries with a leap of 5.95 meters.
