Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season with Pair of Meets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team is set to open its outdoor season this weekend, competing in a pair of meets. The distance crew will head to the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State, while the throws group will be in action at the Don McGarey Invitational, hosted by Kennesaw State.

INDOOR SEASON RECAP
The Broncos found great success during the indoor season, seeing multiple school records, top-10 marks and PR's. Soniya Jones was the headliner, winning the MAC Championship in the 60-meter dash, while setting the school record in the event. In the triple jump, Laurine Elisa Marimon was able to break the school record with a leap of 12.62 meters. Finally, The DMR squad vaulted to the top of the record book with a time of 11:32.70.

Outside of that, Lane Hagens and Marimon placed second in the shot put and triple jump, respectively, at the MAC Championships last month. Mabinty Kebe, Ava Kurczewski, Sandra Ferrari and Lillian Zelasko also put points on the board for the Brown and Gold. Jones (First Team), Marimon (Second Team) and Hagens (Second Team) were named All-MAC honorees for their performances at the MAC Championships.
