KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan center John Keenoy has been named a national semifinalist for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF). The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.

Candidates for the award must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.

The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 31. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 61st NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4, where a winner will be announced.

Former Western Michigan quarterback Zach Terrell won the Campbell Trophy in 2016.

Keenoy is in his fourth year as a starter for the Broncos, playing every game of his collegiate career at center except for one due to injury. He obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration this past April, majoring in finance with minors in economics and general business. He graduated magna cum laude and had an overall GPA of 3.72. He is currently pursuing his MBA at Western Michigan.

Keenoy was a First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection last year in his junior season and a Second Team All-MAC selection as a sophomore. He has also earned Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognitions the last two years.

Since Keenoy's freshman season in 2015, Western Michigan has ranked in the top 30 in the nation for rushing offense. In 2018, WMU's rushing attack ranks 23rd with 225.0 yards per game. In addition to being named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, Keenoy is on watch lists for the Rimington Trophy and the Outland Trophy.
