KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In the first tournament of the season, the Western Michigan men's tennis team concluded the final day of the 2018 WMU Vredevelt Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Senior
Lenhard Haupt led the way for the Broncos, claiming the most valuable player of the invitational after winning the Flight A Championship.

Sunday's schedule consisted of one round of singles outside on the Sorensen Courts. As a team, the Broncos went 8-2 overall in singles play.
Haupt got things started for the Brown & Gold, winning the Flight A Championship over Detroit Mercy's Luka Soskic 6-3, 6-1 on the main court in the morning. The senior captain went 6-0 overall this weekend to earn the MVP title and earn All-Tournament First-Team honors. Junior
Jannik Opitz also participated in Flight A, winning the consolation championship over Diego Le Gal Perez (6-4, 6-1) from Illinois State to earn All-Tournament Second Team.

Matej Svjetlicic earned a win in the Flight B third-place match, defeating Chicago's Alejandro Rodriguez with a score of 6-3, 6-3 and improve to 2-1 in singles play this season. Despite falling in the championship of Flight B,
Kennosuke Nouchi also earned All-Tournament First-Team honors after going 2-1 in the ultra-competitive draw.
In their first tournament for WMU, freshman
Jack Randall and
Peter Kuszynski earned victories on Sunday to go 2-1 overall this weekend. Randall earned third place in Flight C along with teammate
Eric Olivarez, who was named All-Tournament Second Team, while Kuszynski won the third-place match in D.
Senior
Nick Schnobel and sophomore
Zac Faveri also notched wins for the Broncos as the pair both went 2-1 this weekend in singles play.
The Broncos will split up next and head to either the Toledo Rocket Invitational or the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American next weekend.
