KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team and head coach Andy Murray have announced the hiring of Travis Culhane to the position director of hockey operations.
Culhane worked with the Broncos in a hockey operations capacity during his time as a student, beginning in 2015. Culhane holds a bachelor's degree in human resource management and was a member of WMU's Lee Honors College, where he was a Medallion Scholar.
"We are very pleased to have Travis back with us," said Murray. "He did a tremendous job for us as a student and he knows what it takes for the program to be successful on the ice, in the classroom and in the community."
Some of Culhane's duties will deal with executing travel plans, video scouting and editing, and collection and organization of analytical data for the coaching staff. Previously, for his honors thesis, he collected and calculated Corsi and Fenwick figures for WMU players and presented them to the Lee Honors College judges and Murray. He is also the son of WMU Hockey Ring of Honor member and former Bronco defenseman and WMU head hockey coach Jim Culhane.
The WMU Hockey season gets underway on Oct. 6 with an exhibition game against the University of Lethbridge. Season tickets and Pick-6 plans are available by calling 1-888-4-wmutix and available at wmubroncos.com/tickets.
